Sand Valley Announces Resort Expansion and New Ownership Opportunities

By Brian Weis

Sand Valley, one of the country's premier resort destinations, announced today that construction will begin in May on a multi-facility resort expansion. Limited home ownership opportunities adjacent to the new experiences and Sedge Valley (opening 2024, www.sandvalley.com/sedge-valley) are also available.

"We have always said to our guests, 'if you keep coming back, we'll keep giving you more reasons to return,' " said Michael Keiser, who, along with brother Chris Keiser, owns Sand Valley. "Sedge Village gives us all something to look forward to."

Sedge Village Resort Expansion
The centerpiece of Sedge Village is Tom Doak's newest 18-hole design, Sedge Valley. Inspired by the historic heathland courses of England, Sedge Valley emphasizes strategy and creativity over length. The course, which will open in 2024, features some of the most exciting green sites on the entire property. For more on Sedge Valley, visit www.sandvalley.com/sedge-valley.

BBQ Smokehouse, Putting Course, Interactive Golf and Arcade Games
Guests and residents will gather in an authentic smokehouse restaurant featuring pit BBQ, craft beers and other smokehouse fare. The restaurant and entertainment center features all-season golf simulators and indoor-outdoor bays with cutting-edge tracing and simulator technology. During golf season, outdoor patio seating overlooks a rollicking six-acre putting course. Downstairs, a game arcade will keep friends and families entertained into the night.

The smokehouse restaurant, putting course, interactive golf entertainment and game arcade will open for the 2024 season.

The Sand Valley Pool House
Located just a short walk from Sedge Village, Sand Valley Pool House will offer an oasis-like spot to escape the heat and rejuvenate after golf, tennis, hiking and biking. Guests will cool off in an infinity pool overlooking Mammoth Dunes, enjoy sauna, steam and cold plunges. The Pool House will also offer a variety of massage techniques in eight treatment rooms, along with a grab-and-go food and drink shop. The Pool House will open in 2023.

The Sand Valley Tennis Center
Since introducing its grass tennis courts in 2018, Sand Valley has become a mecca for racquet sport enthusiasts. Beginning in 2023 those tennis players will have a place to call home: the 13,000-square-foot Sand Valley Tennis Center.

Opening in 2023, the Tennis Center, adjacent to the resort's 15 grass tennis courts, features outdoor seating overlooking the grass courts and the 18th hole on Sedge Valley. Inside, guests can relax and recover with food and drink at a bistro-style restaurant with a brick wood-fired oven overlooking an unexpected example of the rich history of tennis: just the eleventh Court Tennis court in the United States. The Tennis Center also features a fully stocked pro shop.

The history of Court Tennis (known as "Real" or "Royal" Tennis in other parts of the world) stretches back to the 13th century. King Henry VII of England is said to have played the game. Guests will have the chance to learn the game and enjoy competitions and exhibitions throughout the year to get to know the true origins of the modern game of tennis.

Practice Facility
Sand Valley is answering its golfers' top request: a state-of-the-art Practice Facility. The 50-acre practice grounds will include a 500-yard driving range with target greens and an extensive short game and putting area. The facility will also be home to a year-round Learning Center with indoor-outdoor hitting bays and extensive instruction programming.

Sedge Village Home Ownership
For some, the appeal of Sand Valley goes beyond a resort stay. Sedge Village, a collection of 36 homesites surrounded by towering dunes - with most sites overlooking a 17-acre lake - is located adjacent to Sedge Valley and many of the new experiences.

Sedge Village Estate homesites range in size from four to 30 acres. Buyers may choose their own architects to create the year-round or seasonal home of their dreams. Estate homeowners have the option to participate in the Sand Valley Rental Pool.

Sedge Village Cottage homesites range from one-half to two acres. Designed to provide comfortable space for owners and to be included in the Sand Valley Rental Pool, these sites support four plans from three award-winning architects. Owners also select finishes from a curated furnishing/interior plan. The first Sedge Village Cottages will open for the 2023 season.

About: Brian Weis

Brian Weis Brian Weis is the mastermind behind GolfTrips.com, a vast network of golf travel and directory sites covering everything from the rolling fairways of Wisconsin to the sunbaked desert layouts of Arizona. If there’s a golf destination worth visiting, chances are, Brian has written about it, played it, or at the very least, found a way to justify a "business trip" there.

As a card-carrying member of the Golf Writers Association of America (GWAA), International Network of Golf (ING), Golf Travel Writers of America (GTWA), International Golf Travel Writers Association (IGTWA), and The Society of Hickory Golfers (SoHG), Brian has the credentials to prove that talking about golf is his full-time job. In 2016, his peers even handed him The Shaheen Cup, a prestigious award in golf travel writing—essentially the Masters green jacket for guys who don’t hit the range but still know where the best 19th holes are.

Brian’s love for golf goes way back. As a kid, he competed in junior and high school golf, only to realize that his dreams of a college golf scholarship had about the same odds as a 30-handicap making a hole-in-one. Instead, he took the more practical route—working on the West Bend Country Club grounds crew to fund his University of Wisconsin education. Little did he know that mowing greens and fixing divots would one day lead to a career writing about the best courses on the planet.

In 2004, Brian turned his golf passion into a business, launching GolfWisconsin.com. Three years later, he expanded his vision, and GolfTrips.com was born—a one-stop shop for golf travel junkies looking for their next tee time. Today, his empire spans all 50 states, and 20+ international destinations.

On the course, Brian is a weekend warrior who oscillates between a 5 and 9 handicap, depending on how much he's been traveling (or how generous he’s feeling with his scorecard). His signature move" A high, soft fade that his playing partners affectionately (or not-so-affectionately) call "The Weis Slice." But when he catches one clean, his 300+ yard drives remind everyone that while he may write about golf for a living, he can still send a ball into the next zip code with the best of them.

Whether he’s hunting down the best public courses, digging up hidden gems, or simply outdriving his buddies, Brian Weis is living proof that golf is more than a game—it’s a way of life.
